HISTORY OF TRINGALWADI:

There is no evidence of when the fort was built, but the caves indicate that the fort might have been constructed during the 10th century. The fort was used to overlook the trade route of Konkan to Nashik. This fort was one of the fort which was given to Mughals by the Shahaji Raje as per the treaty of Mahuli in 1636 A.D. However Shivaji Raje took it back, but it is unknown when it was won by Marathas. Later it was again won by Mughals by 1688 A.D. & Later in 1818 A.D. Fort was surrendered to British with the 16 other forts after the Trimbak Fort defeat.

WHATS THERE TO WATCH ON TRINGALWADI FORT? :


  1. First spot you see while travelling to fort is Tringalwadi dam, which is awesome place to take some clicks.
  2. Pandavleni caves which is at the base of fort which can be easily reach walking toward the fort from the Tringalwadi village. In this Pandavleni there are lots of beautiful carvings, Relics at the entrance and also Stone idol of Rishabhanatha inside the cave with some inscription written below the idol.
  3. Moving ahead there is stairs carved in the stones leading to the ruins of old palace.
  4. Moving ahead from old Palace ruins lies two ways, right one leads to a small Bhavanimata temple at the back end of the fort. And also a cave carved inside the stone having about space for 20 – 25 people.
  5. And from the left side the passage leads to the main attraction of the idol of Hanuman or Maruti at the main entrance for which you have to descend first from the stairs. Further ahead there are 52 stair steps before the entrance. However the stairs at the start are not in good condition because of erosion.


FACILITIES:

  1. Water tanks above is suitable for drinking water.
  2. One can camp in the caves on the fort but it is not possible during rainy season due to water is flooded inside caves.

BEST TIME TO VISIT ON FORT:

With waterfalls and green grass everywhere Rainy season offers a best view of the fort. And the best time for visit.

HOW TO REACH TRINGALWADI FORT? :

FOR BIKES AND CARS -
  • From Mumbai side Travel by highway NH160 Mumbai Agra Highway - Igatpuri – Pardevi Village – Tringalwadi Village.
  • From Nashik side Travel by highway NH160 Mumbai Agra Highway – Take Village – Pardevi Village – Tringalwadi Village.
FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT -
  • Reach Igatpuri Railway Station – take S.T Bus to Ghoti till Take village – From there you have to travel by Jeeps or Van to Tringalwadi village.

TIME REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE TREK:

One can reach at top within 1 – 2 hours taking breaks.
