HISTORY OF HARIHAR FORT :

Harihar Fort or some might know it by Harshagad is fort which is situated in Nashik district in Trimbak Fort range which was built During the Yadava Dynasty. The main purpose of the fort was to keep an eye on the trade route of Nashik. Later on, in coming centuries, The fort went under several kingdoms. Now the fort is in Ruins. It is said that, During the British rule the fort was to be destroyed but the captain fell mesmerized watching the carved steps in the mountains. So the fort was left on its on. 

    WHATS THERE TO WATCH ON HARIHAR FORT ? :

    1. During rainy season the fort is covered with waterfalls on its ways.
    2. The steep stairs climb which is the best and most thrilling part of the trek.
    3. The 1st door or Mahadarvaja right after the steep stair climb.
    4. After entering from Mahadarvaja, You have to climb stairs again but now you have to pass through a cave in between while climbing stairs.
    5. Shiva Temple and the pond in front of it.
    6. If someone like to climb to peak of Fort, there is a way from the Temple to top of the peak where you have to climb a rock which is near about 10-15 feets of height.
    7. Travelling ahead of the temple there are more water ponds and a Palace in which there are 2 rooms enough to accomodate 10 to 12 peoples in it.

    FACILITIES :

    1. Water Facilities is available on the fort from water tanks near the shiv temple or from the local peoples lemonade stand.

    BEST TIME TO VISIT ON FORT :

    Best time to visit the fort is before July and after the month of September. Fort can be climbed during rainy season but Forts stairs can be slippery during rain so one should try to be careful during climb.

      HOW TO REACH HARIHAR FORT ? :

      Harihargad is situated at Harshewadi village in Nashik District. But one can also go from Nigurpada village just trekking time required is more from than the time taken from Harshewadi Village.
      • To reach Fort via personnel vehicle-
      1. From Mumbai - Kasara Mumbai Agra National highway - Vihigoan - Nigurpada Village.
      2. From Nashik - Travel to Trimbak Road highway -  Left from Sapgon Phata Bus Stop - Harshewadi.
      • To Travel Via public Transport-
      1. Take Train to Nashik Road railway station - Bus to CBS Bus Depot (Thakkar bazaar) - Bus to Trimbak Bus stand - Van or Jeep to Harshewadi.

      TIME REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE TREK :

      One can complete the trek within 6-8 hrs. 3-4 hours to can be enough to complete the ascend, and descend takes nearly about 2-3 hours.
