Bhairavgad Fort

HISTORY OF BHAIRAVGAD:

Bhairavgad fort is located in Moroshi Village of Thane, Maharashtra. Bhairavgad is a fort which is believed to be around 2500 years old.  Mostly the fort has ruins and remains on top. While climbing from East side of fort you will see stairs which are fallen or broken apart, apparently those were destroyed by Britishers for not letting anyone use the fort.

WHAT IS THERE ON BHAIRAVGAD?

  1. The Fort comes under Kalsubai - Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary, So Fort is covered in forest around itself. Most people like to camp in the forest.
  2. The steep structure of the fort is of very rare kind.
  3. The steep stair climb of the Fort if travelling from east side of the fort, and the overhang cliff climb. (Recommended: Carry Ropes if you might want to go to Top).
  4. Full 90 degree rock climb if you travel from west side of Fort. (Recommended : Carry Ropes & Keep a experience rock Climber with you if you want to travel through this way as it can't be traveled simply on foot.
  5. Fort Consist caves on it. You will reach the cave after to start climbing the stairs which trekkers or visitors use for residence purpose.

Fort has many Water Tanks on it but only few of them contain drinkable water. You will find it before you climb the stairs.



FACILITIES :

  1. You will find natural water facilities on the fort, but you have to climb to reach at those.
  2. Climbers can safely Rock climb the fort using the bolts clamp into rocks thanks to the Group of climber named Safety Climbing Initiative (SCI) and DurgPremi Giribhraman Sanstha for bolting.
  3. You can stay at the base before starting the trek, as local villagers below fort allow people to stay and also provide with food for some money.
  4. For Parking you can Park your cars or bikes at Hotels or restaurants or also at localities place below at your own risk. As there are no reports of theft of vehicle as per the villagers its safe to park at those places.

BEST TIME TO VISIT ON BHAIRAVGAD :

Best time to visit is in Winter. When the weather is cold and the sun is not harsh Which will help you to climb the fort with less effort, which you will require more in rainy and summer season. You might not be allowed to climb the Fort in Rainy season because of the slippery climb and not to mention loss of life. However you can visit after October and before the June end when Rain is Less.

HOW TO REACH BHAIRAVGAD? :

Bhairavgad can be reached using three routes:

  1. From Kasara use the route via Dolkhamb village - Moroshi Village.
  2. From Mumbai use route via Ahmednagar Kalyan highway - Moroshi Village.
  3. From Pune use route via Junnar Narayangaon road - Karanjale - Malshej Ghat - Moroshi   OR  Narayangoan - Alephata - Karanjale - Malshej Ghat - Moroshi Village.

If you want to reach Bhairavgad using Bus you have three options:

  1. From Kalyan Bus Stop To Moroshi Village.
  2. From Alephata Bus Stop.
  3. From Junnar Bus Stop. 

Best Way to travel to Bhairavgad via Public Tansport is via Kalyan to Moroshi as it has more frequency of buses.

TIME REQUIRE TO COMPLETE THE TREK :

It takes nearly about 4 - 5 hours to reach the peak while 3 - 4 hours to descend to the base village. So one can complete the trek within 8 - 9 hours taking breaks between.

NOTE :

  1. Carry plenty of water with you, as during trek only water tanks available are at the base of main peak as shown in the above image and getting over there may require quite a while. 
  2. Even if you trek quite a lot, You might require an experienced rock climber with you as they can free climb rocks and assist you to climb with the ropes over overhang cliffs and steep rock climb.
